ArTWOstic Birthday Party

Family Picture at Rebekah’s 2nd Birthday Party

Our life is busy. ALWAYS busy. Even more so since we had Rebekah.

Abigail’s first birthday party was HUGE.

It was tractors. Red AND green. All kinds of stuff. Plates, cups, and utensils all red and green. The cake was supposed to be a tractor but ended up turning into a combine. Close enough. LOL

Rebekah, not so much. Honestly, I didn’t do much for her first birthday prior to a couple of days before. (Is it bad I dont even remember what her first birthday party ‘theme’ was?!? Oops … Now I will be searching for pictures to remember …)

Since Rebekah did not have a big party on her first birthday I figured I would do her second a little bit better.  A little more planning. A little more thought process put into.

So, for her second birthday we did an ‘arTWOstic’ birthday theme.

Why? Because she is our ‘messer’ as we always call her – don’t let that fool you though, they both are but Rebekah is worse than Abigail on that part … most days.

The cupcakes (chocolate and vanilla) were made by my mom and she made homemade buttercream icing that she colored into green, pink, purple, and blue – per the request of both our children. 😉

The cupcakes were then placed on a foam board (I bought a white foam board from Dollar Tree for $1) that I took and used a utility knife to cut to look like an artists palette and grouped the colors together.

Cupcakes!

I also purchased some canvas boards, paints, and some paint brushes from Dollar Tree ($1 each so I will take that!) for the kids to paint on at her party.

That turned out to be a big hit (forgot to get a picture of the kids (and some adults) while they were painting their boards but they are shown in the last picture at the bottom of the page with the cupcakes.

We had friends and family over that celebrated with us by swimming, eating, painting, and Rebekah opening her gifts!

We had cooked hotdogs, hamburgers, and what I refer to as ‘Boston Butt Bites’ (recipe located here). Along with chips, baked beans, cucumbers & onions, and pickles (thanks to my grandma for the baked beans and cucumbers & onions). Juices, bottled water, and sweet tea for drinks.

We did have some excitement though as our Traeger Barbeque Grill caught on fire! The only thing we can think of is that Garrett had about 10 hamburgers on it. We figure that they were SO GREASY and we had the temp up so high that the grease caught fire and we could hardly get it put out. We used flour, water on the pieces after we got them out, etc. Finally got all of the flames put out and managed to save MOST of the food (and the BBQ grill still works). We had to finish cooking the food upstairs on our stove but that was just a slight hiccup.

Overall, I think the party was a HUGE success!

We had kiddos, parents, aunts, uncles, friends, cousins, grandparents, and great grandparents all swimming at one point or another and then everyone ate – we literally had two hamburgers left!

Our favorite part about birthday parties are getting to see people that we don’t get to see on a regular basis due to life just being so hectic.

That’s what it is all about – the gathering of people that we love, for a person we love.

What is your favorite part of birthday parties? Do you do BIG parties or more intimate parties with just close family and friends?

Cupcakes, canvas boards, paint, and paint brushes. All ready for Rebekah’s birthday party!
